Looking for the Ancestral Home of the Ritchie Family we discover that in Madderty, a parish 4 miles SE of Crieff in Statern Perthshire, that on 31st May 1752 a James Richie was born in Ardbeny. Father is shown as Mungo. The parish church is surrounded by farmland on a road that winds down from the minor road, that runs along the top of the hill. At cross roads St David 's to the left, Madderty Parish Church right towards the Pow Water. Ardbeny is a area to the west of the church on the banks of the Pow Water. Madderty Parish is next to Fowlis- Wester, here were also members of the Ritchie Family, Maybe James father Mungo was born here in about 1727. In 1762 Mungo had a daughter Helen , then in 6th Feb 1757 John was born to Mungo Ritchie of Ardbeny. By 1759 the mothers name was recorded in parish records, this shows that on 19 April 1759 to Mungo Richie and Mary Maxton, Robert was born to them 3rd June 1762, Jean 20th April 1766 and Margaret 10th July 1768 all in Ardbeny. There is no further records of births in Maddery Parish, of Ritchie until 1788. Then not at Ardbeny, but in Lepper Abby to a James Ritchie born in Flowlis -Wester 5 Feb 1764, father William Mother Catherine Buchan and Helen Hally
